Thank you Robert and Tailwind!! coming from the ASK. blog

Okay, so I don't have worlds of experience in cyclocross racing, but I have done enough races to appreciate a decent course from a bad one. The Ohio state championship course was pretty darned Mickey Mouse. As Tim Saari put it, kind of like a backyard barbecue course.
from the ASK blog

This seems to be the word on the street. come back later this week for a wrap on the X season.
good luck to all headin to Nationals.

For those racers who didn't win this past weekend at the Michigan CX Championships. Here are some words from the Evil or Devine one.

Now that my dreams have gone dead
I see the buring in the fire
Just like the race that I did
Ashes turn to ashes once again

I look for a sign in the air
A light that dances in the sky
Maybe you'll see me race again
    Shining like a diamond
Promising my hopes will never die

Tailwind has good courses, but they are far from great. Robert did no one a favor by not plowing the start/finish area. All the snow and slush made for bad starts, no passing, and no opportunity to sprint. I don't think it effected the outcome of any of the races, but it could have easily been done.

agree but not whole heartedly, passing was limited, start ok. it was messy. the pit so so. Find a LOCAL, NOT national caliber event that is run and goes as smooth as a tailwind event, results are up quick, the courses are set up without your help, all you need to do is show up and go fast all the while keepin the complaining to nill. It always seems there are about 2-3 people that complain but dont step up and do something about it. Want great courses? start your own series simple right? If not show up. and ride.. everyone has the same playing field. right? after doin my first kisscross this year for $15 bucks on a grass roots course, I really like tailwind events and would drive to the East side of the state every weekend for them.

Yeah... I think bad starts, no passing, and no opportunity to sprint comes from your lack of legs and skillz. The course rocked. It was finally CX weather. Get over it and hop back on your Campy Record 5k Carbon Ridley.

    Tailwind Forever!

  7. Robert does a better job then any UCI race I've been to and just as good as the USGP. Maybe if you wanted the start/finish plowed you should have brought a damn shovel.

  8. Anonymous5:01 PM

    NOW THATS MORE LIKE IT!

  9. Anonymous5:08 PM

while we're shoveling the course, let's pave it, take down the barriers and sprinkle rose petals around.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Nice touch with the rose petals...

Robert and the crew put on awesome races. We are fortunate to have such a selection of cx events in Michigan...of course there is room for improvement but there will ALWAYS be room (and somebody will always complain), no matter if it is the national championships or a weekend event.

I guess if this a issue in your book, now you know if the weather turns sour you can stay home. it apears your the only one with gripe. The racing went off without a Hitch, there was beer drinkin, chili eatin, and a general good vibe. I hope robert reads this as he has some strong supporters in our "scene"

  13. A major factor in not plowing it was the possible sheet of ice that could have formed. I would rather have slush then a skating rink.

It's Cyclocross! Be thankful you have a place to race, not to mention a quality place to race! Robert barely makes a dime on these races! If it wasn't for his persistence & passion, not to mention the plethora of volunteers we wouldn't be racing any cyclocross in this area!

BTW did anyone see the USGP overall results? The Wiz & Wienert top 10 overall in the Masters 35+! Dang these guys rock!

The Wiz and The Pony defintely had sweet series'. I just wish they could have gone to the finals out west to improve even further, but that's such a pain in the ass. I can't wait to see what they do in Kansas. Good luck fellers!

what happend to the big CX update you said we were to expect.

    ReplyDelete
  37. congrats dirt clogs! this post has gotten the most comments ever on Tms. its amazing something as simple props brings out the best and worst in most people.
As far as the update? its coming.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anonymous1:24 PM

But it was props at the expense of another promoter. I think Robert does a fantastic job as does Tim Tyler. They both have their strengths and weaknesses and they both bring us races that are worth going to. I applaud their efforts and hope they both strive to improve the already high quality events they put on.

  39. Anonymous2:52 PM

listen im not the one doing the blog and whoever said i was needs to stop pretending they're me

  40. Anonymous3:04 PM

Its OK BRI. you should be proud no one else has phessed up to it. Take it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anonymous5:04 PM

    Tym Tyler, oh man.
Remember to lift up the rock and place your money on the pile at registration at his events.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous7:13 PM

What rock? I know Tim doesn't have a clue, but that dude always comes up with cash, even for measly events. I don't think he should be the poster boy of cycling promoters, but I'm just saying...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous7:50 PM

Tim put on a decent uci race this year, there were a few obvious problems. The larger issue was the terrible uci officiating. We all know that Robert is a stickler for detail and he still gets slammed by the officials when uci race time comes around. Where the hell were the tape measures at in Ohio and how about a little warm up time between races. That official should be fired.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anonymous8:09 PM

Uh, what UCI race? Mitch Graham did the Biowheels race in Ohio and Doug Dobrozi did the race in Kentucky. Tim isn't quite up to UCI status yet. Regardless, the officials stank. But in case you didn't know, the promoter doesn't choose the official, USA Cycling does. There are questionable officials out there, so let USA Cycling know, otherwise they'll get repeat assignments. Warm up time is critical and should always be allowed in between each event for the next category.

  45. Anonymous8:55 PM

looks like we're getting way off track here people. the point of the post (i think) was just to say "thanks" to Tailwind. "We like what you do. Keep up the good work." maybe some of these other promotors don't do as quality of a job, but aren't we glad they at least do it at all?

    ReplyDelete
