The Way Back Machine

 MR PEABODY!!!

where are we??

Well Sherm it appears as if there is a glitch in the matrix..

What does this mean?

It means roll up the window's and hang on as we are going to speed away from this raging mad man Trevor.

But are re we still talking about that old team Saturn of Toledo?

You mean Saturn/Shell of Toledo...

Somewhere along the lines the Shell Oil company decided it has some extra cash laying around and wanted to help a bunch of weekend warriors enjoy there sport more and dumped a cool Hundred thousand into a kitty for them. And Cannondale came on as a bike sponsor.

Holy steaming cheese curds Mr Peabody, this sounds like a completely ridiculous thing to do!!

Well be that as may seem. They did. And it gave the group some new life for at least few more years.

The lure of more many allowed the bosses to bring back the Black-Ace, and with him the Evil-Dude. As well as a few others from the past the group continued to steam roll local races and dominate the all club events of the Wheelmen. But what it did the most was give them CX credibility. With the Black-Ace and Evil-Dude now carrying the Red/Black flag every weekend all over the Midwest.

What about that Steele chick..?

Good question Sherm, i think at this point making Ice Cream was a much bigger priority for her.

Things were still holding there own through the 2007 season. The kits stayed the same and the results were still coming in mainly from guys like Jim Regan, The Ace and the Evil-guy..but you could see by 2008 things were starting weaken. The masters field of of Mark Armstrong , and the gutsy Dave Komives was scene less.

The CX duo was represented well with the Black Ace winning a State title as well as the Evil Dude.

Side note the squad did have a pretty sweet composite team attend the NRC pro road race Tour De Leelanau. Comprised of The Ace, The Evil dude. Steve Clark, Cleveland's Shawn Adams, and Utah's Mark Santurbane. It was kinda like the Swan song for the Saturn boys.

Please tell me Mr Peabody, this is the end.

Yes Sherm my boy, for 2009 its the end for most. The Black Ace would continue to fly the flag a few more seasons, The Evil-Dude would move leaving has his wingman. and the wrest of the old guard of the Saturn crew would stay in there own yard of sorts from here on in.

If you keep close eye and have the guts to attend the Infamous Death Crit you just might catch a quick glimpse of one the old kits rolling around sidewalks remembering when...
