uhhh...all i know is, both Saturn of Toledo and Priority are fielding 10+ guys for the P I II race, plus west coast and their ringers...leaving the scraps for everyone else.

it's hardly a pinnacle of racing considering it is a one hour crit followed by a 50 mile road race.

well when you gauge it to races like industrial park crits, the OL major taylor, and the lack of a decent race in any way shape or form(other than state championships or tour de blue care) of the late 80's-early 90's, its pinnacle. In our books its better than spending the weekend at waterford hills.Yea its NO tour of Gila. the road race coulda been longer and the crit maybe a TAD more exciting, but its a start. Hell you have already buried before it was born. SAD.

joe and the gang are taking the "build it and they will come" approach...and look at the registration: 300+. Plus a new, exciting format to make it worth the effort and draw in more riders.

look at the big picture and this puts us back on the map (along with races like tour d' leelenau)

true. the road race could of been a longer.

if it follows the Kensington Park rule, everyone has to be off the course by noon...sounds like they are working with time constraints while appealing to the masses (ie: not running 15 different groups at the same time).
sounds like an OK compromise to me.

Man, a grassroots bike racing scene throws out a really cool new stage race idea and people are bitching about it because the RR isn't long enough? Damn, you're all a bunch of whiners. The park does require racers to be done at a certain time and Joe and his crew did everything they could to build a quality event within the guidelines they were given. Quit your bitching and be thankful that there are guys like them to turn a rather normal event into something cool. If you want a race with longer stage races then drive to do an NRC race and don't give MWCG you're money because there's over 300 other people who are excited about racing this event and taking part in a timed stage race which is a rare and unique opportunity in our area. Get over it.

Guys,

All I can say is

"HOLY SHIT WHAT HAVE WE DONE!!!"

The response has been tremendous.

We've done all we can to make this event work for all the categories as required by the Michigan Challenge rules.

Yes, the park requires all racing to be completed by 11am, which didn't leave us much time. I wish it could have been a longer RR, but I've spoken to Omer Kem of PH and he's told me that he's aiming to condense 5 hours of Tour of California pain into the 2 hours this RR will run. I'm sure there will be ALOT of dropped riders who will be glad it's over after 47 miles.

But seriously, we welcome all suggestions. Hopefully next year we can add to it.
