We are deep into the 2020 planning like a Sager Rd. sand pit and excited to announce some BIG news and changes for the 2020 event. 1. Registration & race cap
First, registration for the April 18, 2020 event will open on December 1, 2019 at 9 AM EST on Bikereg
After last years early sellout, we’ve made the decision to increase the racer cap for 2020 to 3850 (350 additional entries). This breaks down to a 350 cap for the Psycho 100 miler and 3500 for the 18,36 & 62 distances combined.
We still anticipate a sellout and once this occurs the regular registration will close and be replaced by a formal waitlist system on our Bikereg page.
2. 22- mile “Chiller” changed to 18 mile For 2020 the 22 mile course will be replaced with an 18 mile course!! We're excited about this for a number of reasons. First and foremost, this will be a big step forward in rider safety. We often hear from first-timers that the 22 mile course is a bit much and harder than they bargained for. The new 18 mile route removes The Wall and Cemetery Climb effectively cutting out 200' of elevation gain. Our hope is that while still a worthy challenge, this will be a more beginner friendly route as it was intended to be from the get-go.

3. 36 – mile Women & Men Open race category Another change we’re excited about this year is the addition of the Women’s and Men’s Open race categories to the 36 mile race! Have you found yourself several waves back and wanting to vie for the overall? Fear not! Now you can register for the open category, start in one open wave and compete for the top 10 cash. There is one caveat: you’ll have to choose overall cash money or age group glory. Riders registered in the open waves will not be eligible for age group awards, and riders registered for age group categories will not be eligible for overall podiums and cash money.
4. 62 – mile race categories; minimums and awards payoutsFor the 2020 event we are doing away with category racer minimums and contingent payouts for 62 mile categories! Previously we required 10 minimum for Singlespeed and Masters categories, and 30 riders for a payout. Those days are gone! Our goal is to continue to grow the sport and we hope this will help grow the smaller fields to provide y’all with solid competition.
6. Psycho 100 mile; New route and race cap
We always look to keep things fresh and interesting for the event and our resident route master (Matt Acker) has dialed up a “scenic” new Psycho route for 2020. We are also increasing the racer cap from 300 in 19’ to 350 for the 2020 race. Check out the route: https://barry-roubaix.com/psycho-killer-details 7. Have a fast team?? You can also Sign up for the Team competition race category We are excited to once again offer a race within the race with a team competition for the 22, 36 & 62 mile races. You first register and race as an individual. One person from a team “the captain” may then register your team to compete in the team competition category- Sponsored by Security Credit Union. For all the requirements and details go to the FAQ’s page on our website.
8. Youth 18 and under registration fee and team competition Let’s continue to encourage the next generation to race and see what we love about cycling and gravel. Race registration for all youth 18 and under is only $25 and will remain open for registration even if the event sells out. Additionally, we are excited to announce a new Youth team competition for the 18 mile race. All youth will still register and race as individuals but now they will also compete with their team with the fastest team winning $1,000 for their organization. See our website for all the details.
