Rudy.. OK tripper I’ve been waiting all week. You got anything for me

Tripper.. Sorry Rabbit it took me so long. You know life got away and just really wasn’t motivated to come over here and talk to four people, but that being said I did come up with some events that didn’t quite live up to the hype that they were promoted to I don’t think I got 15 but I think I got enough that you’ll get my point.

Rudy.. All right, All right trip let’s hear him

1. The first one that comes to mine and it’s an event that’s still running today is the Waterloo grit and gravel OK sure it’s still running. It’s still about below average numbers, but the promotion of the event made it seem like you were gonna get the ride of a lifetime And the entry fee reflected. It’s enormousness with a pretty high ticket price when it comes down to it it’s just another gravel race.

2. Despite being the golden age of cyclocross that UCI Springfield Oaks and Waterford Hills racetrack cyclocross races, these were dropped in at the height of the growing sport of cycle cross hanging UCI status on it was a lure for bigger name, riders and more field depth, although great events it still didn’t pull the numbers that the cost to put it on Was paid. The elite race field depth was stacked in the top 12, but after that, it was still just a bunch of local hot shoes.

3.  The Belgian waffle ride Michigan, edition, I almost forgot this race even existed dropped in at the height of the Belgian waffle experience. This was touted as one of the best gravel races in the Midwest and not knocking the course by no means it just unfortunately hit at a spot when gravel started hitting it’s downturn

4. The tour de Leelanu , Steve Brown, famous for his iceman promotion came up with a great idea have a road race in northern Michigan that will start the same type of trend that iceman did, but unfortunately, the roadies aren’t as much fun as the mountain bikers great course promoted very well And then it actually led to an NRC pro race. After only maybe 2 to 3 additions it too went belly up.

5. Last edition of the State road race, mass starts never end well..if you were there uno what I’m talking about

6. That GNFY or something like that ride/race, that dam thing clogged up my social media algorithms for weeks, ride and with pros, feel like a one…I’m not even sure if it ever happened…but poof it was gone as fast as it arrived

7. The Tour de Washteneau , I’m sure I’m miss pronouncing that, but this was one of those events before gravel, and way ahead of its time, promoted by the same guy that put on the now defunct Tour of Battenkill, held in early May, and coming with hefty entry, it was sure deliver the goods year after year….it did not

8. The final editions of the Cone Azalia classic, sadly it was too late for this one, even when the few final real race editions were being held it was one foot in the grave, the last couple of fun rides were a mere shadow of the death marches of early Y2K..

9. USA Cycing Phart Tire nationals…yeas..Michigan hosted this, and it was attended as expected by the less than 200 Phart bikers in Michigan…are Phart bike nationals still a thing?

Tripper…I’m sure I missed a few, but you get my drift rabbit…you can’t make epic…epic makes epic
