Calendars out — it’s time to sign up for 2022 gravel
Here are eleven — of many — gravel races with upcoming sign-up dates and new-for-2022 updates.
The dust from the 2021 gravel season has barely settled, and there are a few more races yet to come. But if you want to get in on 2022 gravel race goodness, now is the time to set your alarm — registrations start this weekend.
With the continued growth of gravel races, events are not always easy to get into. Many larger races like SBT GRVL and The Mid South have turned to random selection — ie. lottery — entry formats like that of Unbound Gravel.
If you don’t get into one of the Monuments of Gravel, don’t fret — there are amazing gravel races all over the country, from the eastern mountains to the western desert and everything in between.
Here are eleven of the many, many gravel races next year with upcoming registration dates to put on your calendar.
The Mid South, March 14, Stillwater, Oklahoma
Registration: October 30-31
New for 2022? Run and ride both the Mid South and Gravel Worlds in the first-ever Double Double Championships. Also, juniors under 18 can register for 50 percent off either the 50-mile or 100-mile Mid South courses. Proof of vaccination or negative COVID test required!
Rasputitsa, April 30, Burke, Vermont
Registration: Open, but the 70k and 100k distances already have waitlists. Spots remain for the 40k.
New for 2022: Self-directed wave starts. For example, those who estimate their finish time to be 2-3 hours will line up in ‘The Mullet Posse’ corral. Also, this year’s pre- and post-race rock n’ roll concerts pay tribute to AC/DC.
Belgian Waffle Ride, May 1, San Diego, California
Registration: November 16
New for 2022: BWR San Diego is the original and biggest. BWR first added Utah, and then North Carolina and Kansas editions (the latter of which is this final weekend in October). Next year, BWR will have the Quadruple Crown of Gravel, a series that combines all four.
Gravel Locos, May 14, Hico, Texas
Registration: October 31
New for 2022? The addition of a 100-mile route, bringing the total of courses on offer to four (GL30, GL60, GL100, and the GL150). This race was free in 2021 in the hopes that participants would make large donations. They didn’t, so this year there will be an entry fee for the ongoing support of the Hico Volunteer Fire Station
Stetina’s Paydirt, May 21, Carson City, Nevada
Registration: Open
New for 2022: Since the event has been canceled twice due to COVID and wildfires, it’s all new in 2022. Notables include a $4,000 prize purse for women only and a mechanical bull competition for time bonuses.
Unbound Gravel, June 4, Emporia, Kansas
Registration: Deferral registration will be open November 1-30; XL Lottery: December 1-15; 200/100/50/25mi; Lottery: January 5-18.
New for 2022? New para-cyclist category, increased rider numbers, and all women guaranteed entry. Expanded live coverage with FloBikes
Rooted Vermont, July 30, Richmond, Vermont
Registration: November 1-15
New for 2022? 50 percent of registration spots are reserved for women. Also, the race is adding two categories — non-binary/gender non-conforming and para-cyclist.
SBT GRVL, August 14, Steamboat Springs, Colorado
Registration: November 20 – December 8 for deferred riders; December 5 – 8: Priority registration for advocacy partners, parity initiatives, 2021 volunteers, junior program; December 10 – 12: Random selection entry
New for 2022? 200 spots set aside for junior racers, and the promoters are launching SBT TRVL, a three-day supported riding experience in Colorado.
Gravel Worlds, August 20, Lincoln, Nebraska
Registration: November 6, Land Ho 50k run and Long Voyage 300; November 13, Gravel Worlds 150, 75, and 50k
New for 2022? The Land Ho 50k ultra marathon debuts the Friday before Gravel Worlds – run, ride, and/or combine the Gravel Worlds events with The Mid South run and ride for the Double Double Championship.

Yep it’s true..The long standing get the autumn rolling Alma GP folks said it was enough and pull up the barriers.
I’d say I don’t blame them for one mud ball minute..
I’m sure you would love to explain.
Actually I really wouldn’t, but i will because I could drone on all day about, how the CX has survived on life alert longer than humanly possible, I could say that average CX folks run into September like it’s the end of cycling only not never be scene again after iceman, oh and could say the events, most recently the AAVC Vets park race gets plopped on top of a UCI race one state away, and is a highly junior attended, now dont know the fine folks from the AAVC, and there life schedules, I would of thought the UCI race in OHIO would of been a spectacular way to show case, and ultimately expose there junior riders to some fresh and talented kids. I understand most made the trip to the Wisconsin race, but I’d think the OHIO race would of been a better bet. But hey, what do I know? Might of just been easier to build your own event and spare the cost and hassle of loading the crew up and making the nearly five hour drive south. Besides it’s unfortunate that with exception of about 2 to 3 people from our state remotely have a shot at the podiums.
It’s been like that for a long time I don’t see a change coming anytime soon.
And with that ramble. I will say I have the utmost respect for the Folks that made the Alma GP happen, they have done a fabulous job holding on to the golden age of CX in Michigan, My only hope is Obi Wan can muster up the power of the force and persuade another race promoter to carry on the flame...

47 degrees, and what some weather people are calling it an atmospheric river event...Well October has slipped through our fingers hasn’t it, It’s now October 25th, and it was just yesterday the campers were arriving at Waterford.
Looked like a fun weekend across the land, eager folks were scene close to camp getting Peaked out some might say at the Annual Peak To Peak mountain bike race, turnouts were reported a tad lower than prior to covid, but that didn’t stop the Former Iceman winner get a little more edge on the sword. A solid and fun day was had for..and speaking of fun the AAVC people put on another CX event at the Vets Park. Despite a sub 100 rider turnout , All the old familiar faces were scene on the boxes. Hats off to those hard working people, as the rumor has held to be true..
And with regret and sadness, in case none of you are aware of it, The Fine person behind the Annual and always anticipated Alma GP has decided it’s time to call it a career. Yes that’s correct as I sit in this cabin listening to the rain drip off the porch roof, and the wind blow outside, The event that gets the autumn CX scene going is no more. Possible cause of death, is not fully determined, but it’s certainly a blow to the already stumbling CX scene of our state..
Oh! Gotta run I hear coffee perking it’s ready gurgle.

Up for sale is my amazing BMX collection. This collection focuses on the 1985-1996 freestyle era even though I have a few items in the collection related to racing and a few early items. The collection primarily focuses on GT Bicycles although there are a couple of non GT bikes. There are 24 bicycles, 19 which are completes, 2 NOS frames, one NOS frame & fork, and one freshly powdered frame, fork, bars, & post. A couple of the bikes are builds but the rest are MINT survivors, many purchased from their original owners. Almost all of them were painstakingly disassembled, deep cleaned, and reassembled with every nut bolt and screw receiving attention. Those are just the bikes, the vast majority of this collection consists of NOS parts and memorabilia. I have cases of parts, pretty much everything is displayed or hung up. I am NOT going to list parts one by one. You have to look at the pics and ask questions. Assembling this collection was a MONUMENTAL feat. It was assembled part by part, purchased from sellers in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Italy, England, Germany, Australia, Norway, Denmark, Spain, Puerto Rico, and on and on and on. This took A LOT of work, time, and patience. It wasn't just "buy a part and done". NO, it was deal with all these individual sellers, pay and get the part shipped, hopefully in one piece, make sure the part was clean and presentable once received and then properly displayed. What you will see in the photos will blow you away (link below). I have been told that I have ONE OF the best assembled and displayed GT collections known, if you've been on the Facebook BMX pages you've seen it! My stuff isn't junk bikes piled up like cordwood on shelves. No, EVERY item has been gone over and lovingly been cleaned and properly displayed. I will even include four out of the six display cases as well! This is your opportunity to obtain an instant collection, all the hard work done for you. YOU can be the next king!
Now for the ugly part. Many people in this hobby have NOT been good to me. There are a lot of NASTY little hating creeps and hillbilly kids that like to run their mouths with their ONE $300 bike and criticize everyone else. There are also a LOW class of what I like to call "low-buck bike hustlers". These are the guys that sit like vultures acting like they got a lot of money and attempt to buy collections and part everything out making a few bucks when its all said and done. Those people are usually the most arrogant and I have NO use for them. Good luck to you but this probably isn't for you. I will ABSOLUTELY NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES sell this collection part by part. You need that brake caliper or those grips for your build? TO BAD. Go out and find the part like I did. This collection gets sold ALL AT ONCE or NOT AT ALL. DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT to message me asking to buy something by itself. It's NOT happening. I DO NOT NEED TO SELL THIS STUFF but I WILL if I get the right amount and if it's the RIGHT PERSON. I'm NOT hurting for money, dying of cancer, owe the bookies money, NONE of that. It's just time to get out of this and move on to something else.
- 1987 Air Uni (Basically a unicorn). I bought this bike directly from Roger Berg, owner of Uni, in January 2020. This particular bike was assembled when new and used by Roger Berg as a “test mule” and display bike to showcase new parts he produced. Displayed and never really ridden. Supposedly less then 500 Air Uni’s were produced, ONLY ONE was Roger Berg’s! If there was a BMX hall of fame, THIS bike would be there!
- 1986 GT Pro Freestyle Tour, Maui Blue, MINT SURVIVOR. SUCH a cool bike, a scratch here and there but amazing in EVERY way. Totally complete.
- 1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour. Built bike using all correct parts including dated pro series cranks, tech 7 levers, correct chain ring & 1987 GT Power disc, nos GT grips & Odyssey gen 1 cables, etc. etc. Powdered pink frame, fork, bars, parts. OGK mags and GT heritage white tires. Just needs 474 pedals to be complete. Only thing that can be said, WOW!!! DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!
- 1987 GT Performer. Magenta, MINT SURVIVOR, red GT tires, AWESOME bike. Totally complete.
- 1987 GT Performer. Once built, NEVER ridden bike shop display bike. This bike is totally OG and MINT as made by the factory. NEAR NOS! The most amazing 87 GT Performer I’ve EVER seen. Displayed in parts, Maui Blue (NO wheels or tires)
- 1988 GT Performer. MINT SURVIVOR, Chrome, purchased from the original owner. Perfect in EVERY way. The nicest one on the PLANET. NOS GT tires and GT fork standers added. Totally complete.
- 1989 GT Performer. Chrome ALSO purchased from the original owner. Also PERFECT in every way. Also the nicest one on the planet. NOS chrome GT fork standers added. Totally complete!
- 1990.5 GT Performer. MINT SURVIVOR! PERFECT in every way, BLINDING Arctic White, the nicest one on the PLANET, NO BS!
- 1991 GT Performer. Red Lava, purchased from original owner. Totally correct and complete, part survivor and part “resto”. I had the post, bars, neck, chain ring, and levers powdered. Amazing and totally complete.
- 1992 GT Performer. Orange, totally OG. Needs to be gone over and assembled. Original Frame, fork, post and bars. White tomahawks, have most white components. A project, was going to build a “BMX Beater”.
- 1992 Dyno Detour. Orange Splatter, MINT SURVIVOR. Perfect in EVERY WAY. Totally complete.
- 1992 Dyno Compe. Chrome, MINT SURVIVOR, perfect in every way, first gen GT tomahawks and NOS GT tires added. Totally complete.
- 1992 Dyno Compe. Blue with white parts, catalog bike. Part survivor, part “resto”. Had chain ring, calipers, levers, stem, and other white parts powdered white again. Totally complete.
- 1992 GT Interceptor. Black, pink/purple components. VERY cool build. NOS GT parts used, repop dominator seat and new Skyway mags used. Totally complete.
- 1993 GT Performer. Chrome, MINT SURVIVOR. Totally correct and perfect in every way, one of the nicest around. Totally Complete.
- 1994 GT Performer. Chrome (green antifreeze decals) TOTALLY MINT SURVIVOR. Nicest example I’ve EVER seen PERIOD. Totally complete with GT Bash Guard & neon green skid plate and GT USA made Overdrive Sprocket with green inlay! AWESOME & UNIQUE!!
- 1995 GT Performer. Purple plasma, TOTAL SURVIVOR. Not deep cleaned yet, will be MINT once done. Have black GT heritage tires to replace worn originals.
- 1996 GT Performer. Red/black plasma, TOTAL SURVIVOR. Not deep cleaned yet, will be MINT when done.
