Rudy..Tripper ..

Tripper..what’s up Rabbit

Rudy..why don’t you race anymore?

Tripper..lol

Rudy. What’s so funny about

Tripper..because rabbit no one has ever asked me about this before.

Rudy, I mean like you were a pretty decent competitor, not just decent you could hold your own with most anyone.

Tripper,  rabbit I’m just another washed up masters racer

Rudy, awe don’t say that.

Tripper, well in all actuality I was pretty good, won some titles, knew how the game was played, but I think in a persons life they often come to a crossroad, were they make a decision to take a break, or even a different path. Some step away entirely, some guide others on there journey, and some even continue on but on a different wave length.

Rudy. Don’t you miss the competition, the people, the hoopla

Tripper, well first hand the hoopla isn’t hoopla, trying to show up weekend after weekend with best face forward is stressful, the competition is a drive, few can call it fun, exerting themselves to be the best is stressful oh sure it feels good achieveing the goal. But sometimes the mental weight of the game outweighs the “fun”!   The people of course I miss the people, but if you were in the game as long as I have been, you’re still connecting with them.

Rudy. You don’t miss it even a little bit?

Tripper, of course I do but, i honestly don’t think everyone really looks at how short life is! I mean with absolutely no disrespect, doing the same Dirty Onion, Race Car tracks world, or traveling to Pigsgrit Alabama year after year isn't fulfilling.

But that’s just me.

It’s a big big big world, and all that   I still ooze with passion, I just don’t want it to define me. When it ceases being a great experience it ceases being a good thing. At least in my world.

You do you, I’ll do me.

Rudy, thanks Tripper I like our conversations.

Rick’s first year with Honda was in 1986. He raced for Yamaha from 1981-1985 and nearly won an outdoor 250 title in ’82, when his front wheel exploded in the final race of the year giving the championship to Donnie Hansen. Rick did win the 250-outdoor title for Yamaha in 1984.

After a very mediocre 1985 season he was supposed to sign with Kawasaki for the 1986 season, only they dropped that plan and hired Ron Lechien. Roger DeCoster stepped up to the plate for Team Honda and gave RJ a test ride.
