Rollin with Joe Lekovish via Velo News..

Cheesehead in Europe
It's great to hear about Trebon, Page, Compton and the rest, but I think the story you guys are really missing is that of Tristan Schouten. Here's a guy from the heartland, who was doing his pre-World's training in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, motor-pacing behind a scooter in 15F weather, over ice and snow.

The guy's got a huge amount of support from his fans in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois and the rest of the Midwest.

Check out his web-log.

It'll be great to hear more about him!
Sincerely,
Joe Lekovish
Northville, Michigan

"Tristan doesn't belong there...?"

Who would you have picked instead?

Regardless, you gotta give the guy some props! He battled an illness all summer long and just turned it on come CX season. At just 23 or 24, he's got the potential to break into the top in the next 1-2 years. He's been a big supporter of the Michigan UCI CX race and while Sept 2007 is a long way off, he's already told me he has really enjoyed coming to our race and that he's got it on his calendar.

While I seriously felt Tristan wasn't getting the publicity he deserved, I also had ulterior motives.

Looking at some of the starters at the 2006 Michigan UCI race, that was a very high quality field. The race should have gotten 10 times more publicity than it did.

CX is exploding in the US and Michigan has a great event and a solid spot on the calendar. If we want to see that weekend become HUGE, we need to keep in contact with these guys right now.

My prediction for the 2007 Michigan UCI race???

You read it here first:

Tim Johnson
Jeremy Powers
Tristan Schouten
Jon Card
Bjorn Selander
Jesse Anthony
Zak Grabowski
Chris Horner
Mark McCormack
...and on...and on.....

Can I get an HECK YEA!!!!

There's at least a dozen guys way better than him. Just because he was the only guy left that wanted to go, doesn't mean he should've went. Quit blowing the guy already. Its tired. He's good, but doesn't deserve the pedestal Joe puts him on.

The UCI race got about as much attention as it deserved. Its too early on the calendar for anyone to care.

And if you think Johnson, Anthony, and McCormack will come, you're out your mind.
