Schooled.

What else can be said? except the PH boys put the hurtin to the rest of the field Saturday the 25th of August. Rockford has had the reputation as one of if not THEE hardest Crits in Mi, The course itself seperates the fit from the fat, the competition is normally tougher, and with home town PH team, well lets just say its a tough day in the saddle.
Maybe the comps too tough, or the weather scared alot of racers off, as the turnout was on the low side compared to years past. The 1/2 field although smaller wasnt short of excitement as the youngest Howard bro started it like a cross race and went balls to the wall from the get go, it didnt take long before he lapped the field and secured the win, in the meantime the older brother Grahm, did the deed, (lapping that is)with aPH teammate.
for PH 1/2/3 sweep. Michigan State TT champ and King of dirt 2007 Greg Christain rolled in for 4th and Ben Renkema rounded out the top 5. Pete Shelling sqeeked the top 10, and it was good catchin up with Vince Roberge who was back in town
Cat 4 had old schooler Brian Bagma bag the win near his hometown. Mackenzie Woodring added anotther notch in the win card with 1/2 womens victory. Scott Claws proved he is still on form, winning the masters 45+ Graig Gietzen of the MUDBATS nailed 3rd.
Strong MAN Karl Bordine got the best of PH's Mark Olsen in masters 35. the RICOISER snuck in for 5th, and whatta about the EYE of GATTO with a career best masters finish in a 9th! cat 3 had another WMCR rider in the win slot, Bart Carlson danced to win with Pete Ehman who looks fully recovered from his date with a mail box at Cedar Creek finished 3rd. Chris THE KID Brinkman just missed the top 5. Tough racing at a tough venue. if you missed it you suck! its one of the best and a great tune up for the
MOTOR CITY MADHOUSE WEEKEND comin up!

I love the course, hate the race. past 3 years PH has shown up wit 1/3 of the field like a bunch of bullies on the playground. next year i may not be there, let them fight amongst themselves.

Should PH slow down or should we speed up? There's always the lower categories or masters options. Let's try not to dilute the quality any more than we already do.

next year we should form a composite team - everyone in the state that shows up vs. PH. We will still probably be outnumbered but it might be fun.

I saw this and thought of you guys.

the problem is not them bringing who they want, it is everyone in the field just watching the race go up the road.

Good point dont let em ride away.., I didnt see the start this year did they do that Ghetto call up of all there riders? With the way the course is designed its alot like TMS a cross start, good start position in important.

past few years it was like "alright, PH to the line, and everyone else, good luck, cause sheedy is going on the first lap".

and to say that it would dilute the quality of racing...when you have 15 from the same team vs. teams of 4, that BREEDS negetivity in racing. Get a clue.

thats a valid point, theres strength in numbers, the whole thing is cheesy when they do that call up thing for the hometown hero's. Im all for the strongest guys wins thing and i have nothing against the PH boys. But there has been alot of negative feedback against the race in a whole. I dont see the other teams that promote and put on races doing the hometeam call up. its kinda creepy.

"I dont see the other teams that promote and put on races doing the hometeam call up"

Time to start.

No, they didn't do a start line call-up -- there weren't enough racers in the field to do that. And really, compared to year's past, there weren't many PH riders there. If the usual suspects from the Detroit area would've showed up, it could've been a totally different race. The only pro's there were Richard England, Omer Kem & Graham Howard.

In previous years the PH pros and the PH amateurs raced against each other on separate teams. This year it was just the usual PH local amateurs, plus the three pros. I think there were ten riders total. It's more than usual but I don't think it was excessive.

I don't understand why people are complaining about racing against pros and that this race is too hard. Its cycling, its not supposed to be easy. Races like this that bring in talented riders raise the level of competition on "the scene". You should all be thankful and stop bitching.

We gotta pipe in on this one, I agree its a great race with a great level of competition, its good all around. The old call up is ehhh..

This is pretty funny:

"In previous years the PH pros and the PH amateurs raced against each other on separate teams."

Like they would really race AGAINST each other because they have a slightly different jersey or something. Like there were a lot of the ametuers going 100% to bring spHeedy back - tight. Maybe both groups weren't working completely TOGETHER, but you can;t tell me they were racing against each other.

A question - are there any rules that limit the # or riders on a team?

Regardless of all the bIatching, the rockford is still one of the best, most challenging races around.

STOP.

check out the start list from Kensington... there were close to 80 guys there. look at all the teams who showed up with 8 or more riders. why make it sound like we are bullies on the playground simply for having a team that races year round, or that shows up to races throughout the state, and not just the ones on the east side?

and we did race against each other last year. you can take my word for it, too, because i am not hiding behind anonymity.

Harden the fuck up and spit out your sugar tits. This is bike racing, not duck duck goose.

Anonymous said...

It's just not very fair thats all I'm saying.

Anonymous said...

what in life is fair? If it were easy we would all be doing as little as possible. Its a fast race, with fast riders, no one is gonna get any better by waiting for a field sprint. if you want to be in the selection, be there or bridge up. this whole thing is kinda way ouuta perspective. DAV

What comes around.......

It's funny, cause earlier in the year I left a comment on Ben Jacque-Maynes blog asking him why they didn't chase in the TofGeorgia when that group got away like 20+ minutes. His reply was:

"Those other teams are just too strong, there's nothing we could do....."

On my best days, I'm a mid-pack Cat 3 racer, but watching the P1/2 race at Rockford the past couple of years has been entertaining. For like 3 years there, 2004/2005/2006 it was the same formula. 5 AdvanB/PH riders escape with Kirk O'Bee. About 2/3's through the race O'Bee would get so pissed off he'd pull over and hurl his bike into someone shrubbery..!

:)

Joe. maybe im stunod, but what the fuck is that supposed to mean?

joe1265 said...

You know, what comes around goes around.

What I read is everyone complaining that at Rockford AB/PH shows up with their top guys like Karl Menziees, Robbie King, Graham, etc. and the pros stick it to the locals, but then on another level the VERY BEST PH pros find themselves in the same exact situation..

Ok, forget it......

Just quit bitching and pedal!

What is stunod, besides "donuts" spelled backward?

Anonymous said...

stunod? yea WTF?

Anonymous said...

LOL!! Forget stunod. The funniest thing on this page is the name "i wanna be a jedi". I'm still laughing so hard my eyes are watering. I'm visualizing a grown man wearing a robe making the sound effects of a lightsaber as he sweeps his flashlight across the room.

Good on ya PH. It is your race and your race to try and win. I am all for the promoting team to do everything possible to win their own race. When a "home" team in any other sport plays at "home", they do all they can to win - Cycling should be no different.
I garauntee we will "Pearl Harbor" the field at Common Crit next year when we make that our race (co-Promotors).
