Come In and Burn

FROM USACYCLING.org: 2011/2012 USPRO Criterium National Championships headed to Grand Rapids!

Michigan has been selected to host a National Championship since I think 1969 (US Track Championships, correct me if I'm wrong).

http://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=5498

Michigan racing has been growing steadily year to year and the selection of Grand Rapids to host the US Pro National Championships is a BIG vote of support from the national governing body.

Michigan cycling fans owe a big SHOUT-OUT to everyone involved with bringing the Championships to Michigan - the Bissell Cycling team, Mark Bissell, Robert Hughes, Craig Rawlings, and more people that I'm sure I've missed.

2011 IS GONNA ROCK!!!!!

lets hope this holds true!

Great news, but fix the pavement before the events.

Where are all of the comments on this? I can't wait to do some serious spectating. This is the biggest news in Michigan Road racing since Leelenau getting canceled, which makes this the biggest positive news in god knows how long. Everyone and I mean everyone should be fired up, planning to line the streets and excited to showcase Michigan road racing.

too bad the course sucks. the pros were whining about it last year

SWEET!!!

The fucking negativity is out of control. Why can't you just be happy that good things are happening in your "scene", I'm sure the roads will be suitable to have the National Championships on. I'm sick of people constantly bitching about courses, venues, pay out, numbers of racers, fly overs, registration, and who the hell knows what else you can come up with. Truth is, that we here in Michigan are blessed to have passionate people, that get involved and put the best races they can on, so that we can race for a few hours. The fact that the U.S. Pro Criterium National Championship is going to be held in your own backyard shows just how fortunate you are. Stop your crying and GET OUT AND SPECTATE!!!!

Id got to agree with you Matt, HATRED runs redder than teddies from Atlanta, i cant quite come to grips with what runs through all your minds, you all want cake, and when you get it you want pie, ask for Coke, and than complain its not Pepsi.
I cant figure it, getting big races makes our state solid, losing them only shows lack of interest, support and money. We lost some good stuff in the past. lets cherish the moments we have with them, and look positive into it.
Im supposed be in my down season and i got to rear up and speak on this im not happy..But ill say it again thats the best part about TMS it gives all a place to express ourselves, instead of keeping it inside gettin a tummy ache.

you can count all our saver stamps T will be there 2011

Thanks Matt for firing my butt up!!

The course was bad?

Shit, that was the sweetest course EV-AH for a criterium.

Seriously, the bricks made you actually THINK about the race. Stay at the front, how to take the lines, where to position yourself.

Give me that course ANY day!!!!

the MICHIGANSCENE said...

i agree Joe. its not that bad.

The point is that we want the race to survive so that Michigan racing can prosper. I agree with Joe, Matt, T, "Scene" and all, but the Pro Teams will bitch to USA Cycling about the holes/waves/bad transitions/broken bricks and USA Cycling will pull the plug on future venues/events.

Joe, no disrespect, but a masters/3 field traditionally only has about 30 - 50 riders. Certainly not over 120 guys trying to kill each other for the Stars & Stripes. A crit course should be a lot of things, but it should not be a cyclo-cross course.

Constructive suggestions about the course will benefit all of us.

i agree. thats a very good point, we didn't think of.
thank you

First of all, I raced the Cat 2/3 field which had 83 racers in it. I think I placed in the high 20's. And I really think the guys were racing......

SO THERE!!! ;)

But seriously, yea, that course is way definitely rough for a pro crit, so something might be done to change it up.

Now about your post, you think ANYTHING posted on this site is CONSTRUCTIVE???? ;)

Joe, what you fail realize are the post are CONSTRUCTIVE,

If you look back in time if it were not for this poorly constructive lowly blog a lot of shit wouldn't be brought out in the open, its not like we as Michigan road/racers/crossers whatever... have a place to speak without judgment. I love coming here to see what people really think, and well this blog may not have alot of RACE stuff from time to time, Its solid and has probably more miscene knowledge than you could ever imagine to have. At least it stays true to it roots unlike

cough..cough

others do.

A SOLID TMS FAN

Joe, I hear ya. But honestly you cant some good doesn't come from TMS.
Give us a little credit

Let's break it down:

1) having the race is great. Hell, having any race is great.
2) having people promoting the sport in the state is great.
3) having people discuss the (+) & (-) is great

It's smart to voice your opinions on the race/venue/promoter, etc. My opinion is that it is a great course that promotes some classic crit racing. However, the pavement is jacked up. The bricks are fine, the manhole covers are fine, but there are too many holes/fractures/cracks randomly placed throughout the course. The surface is reflective of a Michigan city road, and I don't want that unrepaired surface to reflect poorly on our scene.

4) TMS is rad.

You wanted comments Matt, you got them. But where the fuck do you think you are? This is TMS. People come here to get angry. You want pie in the sky? Go over to the Michigan Road Racing forum which has just been tearing it up with activity.

And why is it when someone tells it like it is, suddenly that person is whining and crying? Fuck you guys, there's no silver lining here, just the truth.

T, you need to go back into hibernation. We didn't ask for your two cents. Go get another infomercial you tired old hack.

Of course Joe would think the course was sweet. Everything is perfect on Planet Joe. That shameless self promoter doesn't have a negative bone in his body. Stop being a pussy Joe! Live a little. Get angry about something and feel alive.

Having a race of this caliber in Michigan will be very cool and will be well spectated, but don't get used to it. It will not last long. Maybe longer than Leelenau? The PRO's will dictate the survival of this event followed by a sponsor that is willing to keep forking over the dough. Hope its not sponsored by a car company.

OMG, can't a guy catch a break. :0

I have to be stupidly positive about everything or I would implode from all the negativity that can surround the whole 'scene.

Lets put it into perspective. Out of the whole EFFIN U.S., little ol' Michigan has been awarded the US Pro Criterium Championships! I mean, I went out to the Manhattan Gran Prix Criterium one year and that shit was ON! Seriously, a criterium on the beach in a super cool area of Los Angeles, where they have 4000 registered USAC racers (vs. 800 in ALL of Michigan) and we beat them out!!!

I LOVE IT!!!!

I HAVE DRUNK THE KOOL-AID!!!!!! :)

Joe go to bed,
you got shut down, we love ya man and all the stuff you do but you cant win them all.
its OK,
just like good and evil, theirs positive, negative. ya know like battery's.
were all still friends, and like it or not you are part of TMS. give into the force.

MCG board dead, crickets chirpin on the MBRA forum, MMBA board worthless whining. Like always we got no where else to go but to the Scene for real talk about our thing. Nice points on both sides here scener style, been awhile.
