Driftin

Back when T was little boy he went to a little school..the classes were little not all blown up like they are today.. he wasn't the biggest kid in his class..and wasn't the smallest he was just a kid ..besides being one of the only kids in elementary school to be able to still go home for lunch everyday and enjoy a meal watching Popeye and the The I love Lucy Show T  was like many others..School days were fun..Schools of T's time were a tad different i think than today... kids fought out there disparagement with punches behind the backstop, traded wacky packs during free time and the one token fat kid got picked one sporadically and it effected him to no avail later in life..
Back then T's schools  had this little program..they called it.."Talented and Gifted" it was time during a busy day usually on Fridays once every two weeks for an hour or so where the kids who possessed some form of special talent or gift got to leave the class and polish that gift.. I dunno how the school chose these kids from year to year  students from K-6 got a chance to work harder on whatever  they may have..T was one one of them..the talent is irrelevant..it should go without saying writing and composition wasn't it..but T loved the special time all the same...even better than recess that he often missed and that meant alot since he was usually the best kickballer and runner in the 3rd grade..time was good....for some reason the criteria for picking the gifted one was unknown and T was never invited back..at first after a long summer vacation it was off his radar but shortly into the first part of October when kids started leaving mid day on Fridays.. T wasn't one of them..never speaking a word about it T carried on with rejection that fueled his imagination.. much to the dismay of his teachers he often skipped recess to do his own thing.a thing that carried on all through his school years...all the while never lettin his talent or whatever go without some kind of use..to this today it has gained him zero fortune and not a spec of fame..To sum it up...T throughout the years often wrestled with the rejection but never let it mar a passion..

So what does this silly kid story mean  to anyone who could of stumbled through it? before the KIDA's the Lion of Leroys, the A-Games the Larry B's and other hopefuls I may have missed..although the above story "DOES NOT PERTAIN to the above rider..it does hold a similarity. money..wattage..carbon wheels, dope, status updates..mean nothing in a life of longevity without a few simple key components..that money cant buy..

1:52 So we can never have anything be good in our sport? Whats the point?
He rides/is stuck in an entire freakin sport that is known to dope.
He's Michigan boy and a scener, a class act wearing a leaders jersey someplace warm. FUCK YEAH

i agree. the sport is filthy but not everyone in it is. Nice post TMS

Lean, clean, mean machine, don't hate me for the way I ride. Hater hater

That helmet alone should draw some criticism not to mention Ochs handling of Heins blood money to cover the entire doping ring that is pro road cycling.

the whole euro pro sport in its entirety is a dirty piece of poo. But i don't give a shit who's doing what, i don't get paid to do it. i just like to ride my bike. all the gossip and BS of the dope bores me to sleep. im surprised by my fellow riding buddies at there concern over it and time wasted talking about it.
my 2 cents

One must keep in mind, at all times, the entirety of Monterroso’s story: “When I woke up, the dinosaur was still there.”

6:02 you clearly do not know cycling. Most riders have little say in who they ride for, there is plenty of guys willing to carry water bottles. It's a take it or leave it sport. This is not basketball, with millions of dollars available to everyone. It's pro tour or bust for our boy Brent, take your hat off to him and show some support.

Scott Mercier chose to leave rather than compromise his ethics. That deserves respect. Och is dirty, so is Rihs and everybody knows it too.

Only posers, bash former sceners like Bookwalter who have made it where less than 1% of can only dream to. calling him dirty is pretty shitty unless he's tested +

Anonymous said...

Nobody has accused him, only noted BMC isn't pristine. Armstrong tested positive too right? That lame ass argument holds no water for any current Pro Tour pro. None.

go ride your bike

Back in the day Brookwalter lived in Russ Tiles shadow, Russ was the man, the next coming! Brent heads to school, USA team,, and after a couple of years at BMC - BAM! Makes you think, and what ever happened to Russ Tiles?

Bike racing is fucking hard. Dedication is fucking hard, sacrifice is fucking hard. commitment is fucking hard

Some make it
some dont. I could name names of lords and disciples that came close only to disappear into the mitten.

my two cents.

@11:38 that is one of the best responses, and sums it all up: bike racing is hard, dedication is hard, commitment is hard! You want it, you need to work hard to get it

agree as well. Bookwalter just didn't go away to college and get "fast"
the kid was fast when he was seventeen. I recall he nearly even won a cross title back when the Pony was ruling like no other. and he (Bookwalter) was riding a borrowed bike.
Going away only polished him up.

Agree that there is cheating in the sport, but every "two bit" loser that gets drunk after each ride and gives nothing but criticism and lack of heart uses "their cheating" as an excuse to continue to be complacent sacks of shit.
