Help me understand..the romance of gravel road racing..I mean. i understand why those euro fucks do it..but the sudden rise in riding expensive bicycles.. those you may normally never ride on gravel encrusted roads..for no, to very little monitory gain..

I've loved riding gravel roads ever since I got my first road bike over 20-years ago and always lament the dearth of gravel roads near my home. Now that the gravel road races are in vogue, I have a racing outlet for my favored niche.

I love the technical challenge of mtb racing and the tactical side of road racing! CX is great, but the races are pretty short and usually pretty flat.
Gravel road races give you a bit of each venue.
They incorporate punchy hills, rough roads and sometimes snow, sand, ice and single track to help separate the pack.
There are still some group tactics, but the terrain eliminates what people refer to as "neg" racing to some extent.

You haven't been outside of Tailwind to race 'cx, have you... There are options.
Yes... I have raced outside of tailwind and out of the state. CX climbing is still hundreds of feet vs thousands of feet of climbing in a Gravel road race.
If you are referring to UltaCX, I would classify them more as Gravel road races than a CX race.
