One is given and the other is taken..

The AAVC dropped keeping a overall point series for the spring-fling thing...and decided to not award anything for the top three that there not keep tracking of...

Yea not really diggin the AAVC 2017 plan...racing for really nothing..at best maybe keep track of the overall..dont wanna shell out the big money to the final top 3...here are a few simple ideas to make the 30 odd dollars worth while..

option 1

  • 1 st place for the series free entry to all 2018 AAVC spring races
  • 2nd place cover entry to 4 races
  • 3rd place cover the entry's to 3
I have always like the idea of awarding overalls with free entry's..hell at this point just run into the top five...keeps the machine rollin

option 2
  • gas card to the top 3
  • 1st 75$
  • 2nd 50$
  • 3rd 25$
I mean seriously...150 $ aint that much and it would help a tad..shows effort at least..

option 3
  • drop the entry fees in half
  • keep score cuz people like series
  • have a snobby beer and pizza party after..and give out some free swag
If its a "training race"  lets keep the entry fees low like a club race..I mean 30 bucks its near normal entry fees..

For years T has given props to and criticism to all the avenues you all have here in the scene...but 35$ day of bucks for a training race with nothing but USAC results...seems kind steep..I get the whole youth/female development...but driving away riders...(and it will) aint the answer...doesn't surprise me alot of east side folks have been staying clear..in Ts opinion bad idea

When is a training race not really a race..

T's onto something here. The $35 day of reg is pretty steep, but if there is a chance of a payout at the end and you're keeping score, it almost seems ok. But plunking $35 down each week in the name of helping out is going to drive a lot of people away. And I know a few who have already left because of it. Compare it to the Waterford Spring Series. There it's $20 a week with the chance to make some of it back. And the Waterford summer series is $20 a week and there is a serious payout. And the Waterford summer series let's the kids and ladies race for free. AAVC - your'e not going to make any friends doing this, and you're going to turn a lot of people off. It comes off as being greedy and lazy. You have to score the races and send them into USAC one way or another. Was it really that hard to tally it up each week and kick back $300 at the end of the series? We all know it is a lot of work and effort to put on races, and we thank you for supporting the scene, but I think this course of action is very short sighted and detrimental.

Im done
even though i had never been a factor in the last 4 years for the overall. I did like seeing how i stacked up against the other guys, and maybe there would of been an outside chance i could squeeze into the top 3.

6:32 has a great point. Where you are in the standings can be motivating. It's a great way to compare yourself to others and to make you bust your ass to work harder. If you have a series that you are not scoring it's like you are a 6 year old playing in a soccer league that does not keep score.

Plus when back in the day Paul Alman wouldn't count "training races" such as Waterford summer races when applying for an upgrade, why even send the results to USAC. That guy was on a serious power trip

the whole thing is dumb.
Makes AAVC look greedy i agree im not coming out there anymore

Paul Alman had a different way of viewing things. Lucas handles all of the 5-2 upgrades now and from my understanding does a very nice job with it. Results in the training races, Spring and Summer / Waterford and Ann Arbor, will count as upgrade points for most riders. And I believe that all USAC events are required to submit there results. So that's why they send them in.

what incentive is there for any rider to pay 35$ to ride around a industrial park with no compensation be it $, product or rankings
of any kind?

seems completely ridiculous

iPads are expensive. How else are they going to pay for it. Fort Custer MTB was the same cost, twice as long, pint glasses for podiums, cash 3 deep for the elites, and free hot dog and good beer at the end. The m1 race also had a payout and it was on a cool course and it was $20. Aavc has gone stale.
