The Romance


 Join us as we revive the pioneer spirit of the Upper Peninsula and ride our bikes 166 miles through untamed Northern Michigan wilderness. A legendary route charted through the last frontier of the north, the Moran 166 is comprised of lush evergreen-lined gravel roads, deep forest two-tracks, and pristine natural scenery. More than just adventure, the Moran 166 is a competitive high-stakes bike race with $10K in prize money.

Event details:

  • -$10,000 cash prize purse 
  • -300 racer limit for 2021
  • -We’ve secured the old Mackinac County Fairgrounds for the Start/Finish. It’s big. 550,000 sq. feet big.
  • -We will be raising $ to help restore the events barn, ball field, & fencing on the property. 



-This will be a mass start event but all riders who feel they can complete this in 10.66 hours or less will be staged at the front. If you are staged at the front & finish in over 10.66 hours you might be publicly humiliated. 



  • -We will have 3 aid stations & staff to manage road crossings.
  • -We will be working with Hotels in St. Ignace (13 miles from the fairgrounds) to offer affordable lodging for racers.
  • -The event will be professionally timed. We are working on live video & tracking to be displayed at the start finish as well.
  • -We are working on live music, food, & Brew at the finish. 
  • -The average high temp on September 11th is 70 degrees F. The average low is 53 degrees F. 
  • -The bugs have generally stopped bugging by mid to late August here, so we should be good.
  • -Sorry for all of the “we are working on’s” but we had figured we’d have to wait until 2022 to get this going. We are full gas now for this 2021 event. Stay tuned to this website & our social media pages for updates.
  • -packet pickup will be at our Moran 166 HQ (one of the last buildings standing in Moran) Friday afternoon/eve.

Seems like a pretty sweet event, good time of the year.. The terrain in that area will lend itself to some hard ass shit, mainly due to the sand and gravel. Huge props for limiting the entry's, and not turning into a circus, not that circuses are bad, but ....
