MO WILSON MURDER: KAITLIN ARMSTRONG’S VEHICLE FOUND, REWARD FOR INFORMATION UPPED

Armstrong has now been on the run for six weeks.

The vehicle of Kaitlin Armstrong, the prime suspect in the murder of gravel cyclist Mo Wilson, has been found and the financial reward for any information on the fugitive’s whereabouts has been quadrupled.

On the run since Wilson was murdered on May 11, Armstrong has been spotted at two separate airports in Texas and New Jersey as well as at a remote campsite in upstate New York.

Armstrong’s black Jeep Grand Cherokee, a vehicle of interest in the investigation, has now been located by US Marshals at a car dealership in Austin, Texas.

Two days after Wilson was murdered, Armstrong sold the vehicle for $12,200, receiving the check from the dealership the day after authorities questioned her. Armstrong had been interviewed by police but could not be detained due to a birthdate discrepancy on the warrant.

The original $5,000 reward offered by US Marshals has now been upped to $21,000, thanks to an additional $1,000 from the Capital Area Crime Stoppers and $15,000 from an anonymous donor.

Colin Strickland, who was the boyfriend of Armstrong and had been with Wilson the night she was murdered, says he’s been in “shell-shocked grieving mode” and will be “in hiding” until his partner is caught due to fears for his own safety.

Strickland spoke to The Sun newspaper earlier this week and has said the police affidavit “skewed” his relationship with Wilson while also describing Armstrong as “one of the least volatile people I have ever met”.

I had ended the relationship with Kaitlin and it was just interesting timing because Mo had come to Austin to visit a friend that exact week,” Strickland explained.

“It was completely unplanned and yeah, we started spending some time together. That was clearly expressed to Kaitlin at that time and Kaitlin dated other men directly after that. We were clearly going our separate ways but we just didn’t get enough inertia to separate. Kaitlin and I were involved in several businesses together.”

“Mo and I communicated about twice a month (after that) and I think it was skewed in a very misleading way in the affidavit,” he continued. “I would say she is one of the least volatile people I have ever met and that’s why it’s so absolutely shocking.

“She had sides to her personality that I don’t think she shared with anybody. I had no indication of anything like that.”

PROSECUTOR SEEKS 2.5 YEAR PRISON SENTENCE FOR MARIO CIPOLLINI

The domestic violence and stalking case involving the ex-World Champion is nearing its end.

The public prosecutor of Lucca, Letizia Cai, has asked for a two and a half year prison sentence for Mario Cipollini, arguing that the former World Champion “is guilty of mistreatment in the family, stalking his ex-wife and threats to the ex-wife’s partner.”

Cipollini – winner of almost 200 races, including 12 stage wins at the Tour de France and 42 at the Giro d’Italia, and founder of Cipollini Bikes – first appeared in court in March 2019, answering to allegations of violence and stalking related to a series of incidents in 2016 and 2017.

The complainants are his former wife, Sabrina Landucci – who was married to Cipollini from 1993 to 2006 – and Landucci’s new partner, former footballer Silvio Giusti. Landucci’s brother Mario – another former footballer – also filed a complaint.

Under Italian law, the charges against Cipollini could range between two and six years imprisonment for mistreatment within the family, and six months to four years for communicating threats.

The prosecutor has argued for two years for injuries and threats against Landucci, and a further six months for threats against Giusti. Landucci’s lawyer, Susanna Donatella Campione, is seeking damages of €80,000 for her client in addition to any custodial sentence.

The court has heard that Cipollini allegedly “performed a series of acts damaging the physical and mental integrity” of Landucci, through “punches, slaps, kicks … injuries and death threats”.

The most serious incident before the court is the alleged assault of Landucci at her workplace “in front of colleagues and clients” on January 6, 2017. According to Landucci, “[Cipollini] grabbed my neck and then banged my head against the wall … I had to go to the emergency room.”

Landucci also alleges that Cipollini told her “I’ll kill you. You’ll hear the sound of the bones when they break.” Other testimony included allegations that Cipollini stalked her, and threatened “to tear [Landucci’s] brains out with his hands.”

In February 2020, Cipollini was in court for an unrelated 2017 incident, facing allegations that he beat and threatened his sister, Tiziana Cipollini, during an argument about the custody of his pet chihuahua. Those charges were later dropped.

In the three years since the current case was opened, a series of delays due to COVID and Cipollini’s ill-health have drawn matters out into a series of intermittent hearings.

In that time, startling testimony has emerged, most notably from Landucci’s mother, Giovanna Di Simo, who testified to a history of domestic abuse in her daughter’s marriage.

“[Cipollini] kept a gun under his pillow. I saw him with my own eyes grabbing Sabrina by the neck at the bottom of the stairs of my house and then chasing her in the garden, wearing a brace on his knee after a skiing accident, armed with a revolver,” she said.

There were also, she said, “phone calls with screams that were heard even without hands-free, both day and night … text messages sent a hundred times a day. Possessive and jealous. First he cried and asked for forgiveness, asking her to go home and then he started insulting her and threatening her and all her relatives … once their maid telephoned me telling me to run to Cipollini’s house because she feared he would kill Sabrina,” Di Simo said. “I rushed over there and noticed red marks on her neck as if the then husband had grabbed her by the throat. She cried and told me that he had also dragged her by the hair. I invited her to go to the emergency room, but she was afraid, both for us family members and for not wanting to ruin Cipollini’s career.”

Mario Cipollini denies the allegations, telling the court that he never attacked or beat his ex-wife, never threatened her with a gun, and grabbed her by the arm rather than the neck.

His defence team – who have always maintained Cipollini’s complete innocence – will make their closing remarks on July 13, when the verdict is expected to be delivered.

Bob the builder is probably rockin some hard abs and a ripped body under those overalls that all the women in Bobtown are thirsting over.

Tripper: it’s summer, I mean it’s officially summer Rudy, why the long face.

Rudy: I don’t know Tripper, I try not get to jazzed up on it..

Tripper: awe come, 100 degree heat , fire flys, ice cream trucks, pool time and late night porch talks, what could you possibly be missing..?

Rudy: Well Tripper I heard rumors they canceled that big Detroit race?

Tripper oh yea, that..well Rudy, I’m not sure why, but I believe it probably was over scheduling and money issues..

Rudy: doesn’t leave a roadie much to look forward to, and second it’s just another hit the dying road scene. I mean Tripp you were around during the Lance effect, it’s gotta stick you a tad ?

Tripper: it does Rudy, but I tend not to dwell on the past soo much, I fortunate enough to have experience the downtown races, the Tour of Cedar Creek, the Kalamazoo road race, the Lansing night crit etc. and I’ll tell you this rabbit it was a good time. But racing isn’t the only reason I do what I do. I never let it define me. There is soo much more radical shit out there, and in case you haven’t heard you only have one chance at life.

Think about that...one chance...

Need a gravel race fix? Here are five races going down this weekend

It's not too late to register for Gravista, Bighorn Gravel, Grounded Nebraska, and Michigan's Coast to Coast Gravel Grinder.

Now that the Unbound hangover has worn off, you’re ready for another gravel race, right? The weekend of June 25-26 happens to be bursting with them, from Gravista’s deceptively difficult punchy course in Virginia’s Blue Ridge to Bighorn Gravel’s huge climbs in the Colorado Rockies. In between are races in Nebraska and Michigan.

Oh, and there’s a UCI Gravel World Championship qualifier in Arkansas 🧐.

Registration remains open this week for most of these events, but if you’re not the spontaneous type, follow them on social media to see if they might make the cut for your 2023 calendar.

Gravista, Lexington, VA

East Coast gravel (outside of Vermont at least) doesn’t get the love it deserves, and we’re guilty. If I had the energy to get on an airplane this week, I would be headed straight to western Virginia for Gravista. The event, in its second year, is held in the ancient hills and hollers of Virginia’s Blue Ridge. Don’t let the short course distances fool you — both the Worthy 30 and Stoked 60 courses feature a heavy vert to mileage ratio.

For traveling’s sake, Gravista is central to many places on the East Coast, just three hours from both Washington D.C. and Charlotte, NC.

And, if you still need selling, how about this? Gravista is the brainchild of Unbound XL champ Cynthia Frazier — the Velocio Exploro rider has ridden hundreds of miles near her Lexington home, and Gravista’s courses highlight some of her favorite roads.

Registration closes Friday, Jun 24, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. EST

Grounded Nebraska, Roca, NE

Cait Dumas and Susan Cronin, the team behind Grounded Nebraska have been doing their research. After racing and observing multiple gravel events throughout the country, the duo has come up with a formula for their own inaugural event, and it has everything to do with inclusivity.

From the three distance options (25, 60, and 125-miles) to the scholarship-based Rider Support Program to a modest prize purse, Grounded wants to be a place for every type of rider. And, judging by the gender split of current registrants, the formula is working.

Registration closes Thursday, Jun 23, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. CST

Bighorn Gravel, Gypsum, CO

Former ‘cross pro Jake Wells is convinced that the gravel near his home in Avon, Colorado is some of the world’s best.

And since the multi-time U.S. cyclocross national champion has been riding gravel and endurance MTB events for nearly a decade now, the time was right for him to put on an event in his own backyard.

Bighorn Gravel debuts on Sunday in Gypsum, Colorado with three distances for all levels: the mega Ram’s Horn Escape that takes in nearly 10,000 feet of climbing in 85 miles, the Little Bighorn at 50 miles and 6,400 feet, and the Gravel Curious, 20 miles and 2,000 feet of climbing.

A $10,000 prize purse will be split evenly between the top three men and women in the Ram’s Horn Escape race.

Registration closes Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MST

Robidoux Rendezvous, Scottsbluff, NE

Western Nebraska is surprisingly scenic, and the four races distances of the Robidoux Rendezvous take riders on a nice tour of the region. From 25 to 100 miles, each course boasts 95-100 percent gravel roads that traverse interesting human and natural history.

New this year, there are also four, yes four, shakeout rides. On Thursday, a three hour adventure ride

ends at the Robidoux Rendezvous Edition Summer Ale beer release party at Flyover Brewing Co. On Friday, there are three shakeout rides from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. before packet pickup, the vendor expo, and a bluegrass show at 5!

In 2020, this was the first race I attended after COVID decimated the majority of the summer gravel calendar.

Michigan’s Coast to Coast Gravel Grinder

Michigan’s mitten is sandwiched between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, and on Saturday, over 300 riders will ride from coast to coast. The fourth annual Michigan’s Coast to Coast Gravel Grinder begins on the eastern side of the state on Lake Huron’s shores and ends in Ludington on Lake Michigan. The 213-mile course is composed of doubletrack, gravel, dirt, and paved roads. There is a 21-hour cutoff.

Gravel pro Amanda Nauman won both the 2018 and 2019 editions.

For those who don’t want to spend all day on the bike, there is also a 100-mile loop option that begins and ends in Ludington and features 85 percent gravel. 40 percent of the course is in the Manistee National Forest.
