Who was the idiot (Maybe Lathrup?) that crashed himself into the ground in the P, 1, 2 field sprint at B-Ham. It appeared that along with f-ing up his own race that he also took out Foshag, Ace, Wolverine, etc.
If it was a Lathrup rider that was definitely a bad lead out for Foshag.
From my vantage point 2 spots behind card, they tried to be sneaky and shoot 2 by the field with one stuffing it. It caused some confusion and bad lines behind Alan, not sure exactly why he went down. It was very annoying to see some high risk high reward tactics. The reward is never worth my safety. I hope they are satisfied with the reward.
IMO yes Alan shot up right side with Foshag in tow. It looked like a proper lead-out for Foshag until Alan clipped a pedal and went down. I don't know about a bad line the corner was clear. When it comes down to the last lap in these races chaos is sometimes a part. If your a field sprinter the risk is always there.
It was the same at Cherry Ruby, except No one went down. As far the reward for safety that's questionable guys that normally win field sprints are willing to go to the hospital. so it would be safe to assume if you ask Foshag et al, there's probably no regrets.
heres my take: Everyone is tired, with one lap to go i look for the best wheel, preferably a teammate but not always. Today i find Alan Z, go through the start finish and follow his wheel trusting his line. He kills it on the back stretch up the right side. I can speak for myself i didn't muscle anyone out of my way, whether Alan did i don't know i followed his wheel into the 3rd turn a right hander, Alan still haulin maybe a tad to fast, then boom he went down i tried to avoid him but i didn't i went down as well. Causing the Black Ace and Luke C to bail. sorry ..
I can say the last thing I would ever do is to take someone out on purpose or ride reckless, its not the first time i have ever field sprinted nor is it Alans. But like the above anon post said when it comes down to a situation like that you turn it off.
as far as a high risk reward tactic? I dont know what you mean but i know more times than not the last lap could result in a ride in the meat wagon. High risk how many times have talked on the cell phone in traffic?
Last year at this same race there was a similar situation involving two or three well respected sprinters in front of me, they collided and went down, i couldn't avoid them, i lost a ton of skin that day, and missed the labor day races for the first time in over 12 yrs..it sucked but I didn't cry about it.
Someone else mentioned Cherry Roubaix. I was on Ben Renkemas wheel with a 1/2 lap to go, Ben who happens to be one of, if not the best sprinters this state has ever seen. I watched him shut the door on a rider trying to move up on the curb side. He wasn't being a jerk, Its experience he was protecting his territory the dude is good i respect him a ton.
its racing.. shit happens it sucks. Id be happy to address anyone's concerns next time you see me if my shoulder heals up.
Rob's comment makes sense...but if Alan was leading him out, then there was no need for Alan to take risks through the corners. Alan should realize that it was more beneficial for Rob to be smooth with a gradual increase in speed to the last corner. However...based on typical Michigan Scene "Team tactics" (I.E. none), I would hazard a guess that Alan wasn't leading Rob out, but trying to take the sprint for himself.
from my vantage...a whole lotta whinning over a whole lotta nothing. how do you prevent guys stacking it on the last lap? Put your team on thefront and run it hard and keep it safe (ahem, bissel, priority, wolverine, lathrup)...otherwise its ro-sham-bo, bitches. and this point is mute, not like any of them dive-bomed or hooked, nothing shady, he just scraped his pedal. Any of you do that sunday? anyone feel their back tire give a little in the bumps? if you didn't, yer probably not much of a crit racer if yer coastin thru the corners. wa wah wahhhhh. just sayin' funy nobody is talkin bout york nearly taking out the front of the field when he monkey elbowed some priority/carbon dude on the backstretch...boooo hooooo hoooo put a cock in it
York doing something stupid isn't as big of news as solid experienced bike racers mistiming a pedal stroke. I am sure the difference between Alan's mistake causing a crash and just being a butt pucker moment was a case of millimeters.
No one complained about about Adam because the person he clipped was myself. I found him after the race, he apologized and we moved on. As for Lathrup, the crashed ended my chances as I was to the right of Alan and an ace of spades going over the bars. I found Brian Adams, we talked about it. We each said what we saw and I went on to enjoy some good food with friends. If you have an issue, go talk in real life. I'm sure you won't feel the need to yell at someone one the internet.
I don't really see a problem with what Adam did, but rather the fields reaction. Contact is part of the sport and riders need to be able to handle it.
As far as the crash, I don't really see the point in leading it out for 10th place. And a tip on leadouts, if you don't give them room to pass you on the corners you're not going to get passed. You don't need to go hard through the corners to keep your guy up front.
4:52 PM thats stupid comment in a way, why lead out for tenth place. hell for that matter they shoulda just pulled the field and split the rest of the prize money equally through the break.
if $ theres money riders are gonna sprint. maybe that should be a new USCF rule. no leadouts for anything past 10th place.
What Adam did was not just simply making contact. That is one thing and what he did was another thing. But we talked, he apologized and we are good. He manned up and that's all I was looking for. Many good guys do dumb things in the heat of the moment.

On another note, the Ace's race was much fun.
yea, agree it was Lathrup, totally carnaged sending Foshag, Card and Luke C.to the ground, very poor mistake.
i hope everyone was ok.

just my opinion.

amen
So going by Rob's account, if Alan was leading him out, then who were the 2 lathrup guys shooting up the right side before turn 3 not on Alan's wheel?
sounds like whoever stated that fact was confused from a lack of oxygen.
