Then whats JTP?

Anonymous said...

who is this JTP?

OK I did some searching on this JTP. Seems last yr. at PLRA TT he turned near a 46min. loop in expert geared, this yr. he turned down near a 40min. loop in expert SS. I would expect you to be slower on a SS, so this is pretty impressive. At lumberjack this yr. he cut 1/2hr. off his time from last yr. and again was on a SS this yr. vs a geared last yr. I guess I can see where some of this talk is coming from.

What would you say about a guy who went from Cat 5 to Cat 2 in one year?

Anonymous said...

i wouldn't burn the dude until you see his wattage number.
soo many factors can alter off road times.

I'd say impressive if he's clean but still suspicious of such gains in a single season. Steve Tilford has covered this phenomenon on his blog, guys coming out of the winter tearing people's legs off and what it can be attributed to

It's all about relative ability. There is a tolerance within most levels of competition for what can be considered an 'acceptable advantage'. Once you see the real deal in person you'll be a lot less likely to throw that flag ever again. Given the cost, risks, and double life it's obviously a lot less common than the average person would like to admit to their shitty genetics and slow legs. Me? I say get a power meter and a coach. Will cost as much as that stupid towing package you got for the family vacations.

Oh and till JTP gets facial hair like Osgood....I'm going to keep snuggling with my ss teddy bear.

Well I technically went from a CAT 5 to a CAT 2 by Michigan standards in one year, where is my doping accusations?

there goes jupiter. there goes saturn. there goes your anus. there goes pluto. i've dug the sequined heel of my carbohydrate space boot into the lacquered floor of my command control module and i'm using every ounce of force that remains in this hollow body to hold the accelerator down in the "i'm never coming back" position. i can hear, though, still. i can still hear your panting prayers as you all bear your beautiful white teeth and carry on in this vicious business. gorillas made of electricity. boomerangs made of fountainous expectoration. yes... yes, i can hear you...

5:17 PM

Any rider with even the most remote amount of talent. Ask any regional Elite racer and they pretty much did just what you've described.

Anonymous said...

well if you can't go from 5 to Cat 2 in a year then you probably don't really have the talent to go anywhere with it, other than being a decent 1-2 rider in the state. The guys from the scene that actually went to the next level, or had the talent to, could all have gone to cat2 in the first year of racing

So what your saying is....

if a guy is deemed of quality, quick increases are ok and if not he is doping.

whom is this man who deems people of quality or not?

So what your saying is either your good or bad from day one?

Adam said...

It's all about a relative measure to your peers. This isn't TDF where you have a consistent single digit margin. This is amateur racing where It swings wildly in both a micro and macro time scale. Until you've got a very solid read on people I'm not sure you can raise a flag. Also one incident isn't always enough unless it's super human. Generally the greed of it all consumes and blinds the person into larger risk taking. Some have even been known to tell the whole field "Today I win"...and well, they won. At a P/1/2 national event. Rest assured though - given long enough they'll get caught. If not? Take solace that they raced at such a low level it was merely wasted money.

There's an 800 number you can anonymously call and the person in question will be tested. If you have real suspicion and not just some angst filled hunch, make a call and your questions are answered.

Yes, unfortunately for most of us, outside of technical skills, having a decent amount of brain wave capacity and a certain predispotition to support pain, the good are pretty much good from day one.
