With the wind we had on Saturday a lot of riders were looking to get aero. Unfortunately, In an effort to get aero many riders folded their number plates around their bike. Per the rules on our website "Do not trim, fold or bend number plates". Trust us, we don't like having any more rules than absolutely necessary, but this one relates to results and scoring. When the plate is folded in this manner it does not always read properly and can lead to riders not getting a result. We had many people coming to our timers after their race protesting that they didn't get timed, or they got DQ'd. With 3,500+ racers we simply don;t have the staff to look over your strava, interview your friends and corroborate your story while others are waiting for their podiums. Several riders reached out after the event wondering why their placing changed, or why they didn't get their spot on the podium.
For 2020 we will take a STRICT line on timing issues related to number plates. It will be an automatic DQ if you're seen not following the rules and there will be ZERO discussion.
This has been, and will continue to be, communicated via racer emails, social media and on the website. Thanks to those of you who read the rules and obliged, we and your fellow riders appreciate that!
