I Got a chance to mull over my thoughts, feelings and anger, that's been stewin in me since my Atlanta friends left. I am not gonna get all worked up, It aint worth it..First to that Little Fake Suicide man, I dunno who let you in, but if you don't stop trying to be me..cuz no one can...your gonna get your lil self hurt plain and simple..move on..if we meet.... and we will it ain't gonna be nice..
The Second thing..D-Town..I didn't blow it off.. I respect the fact we got someone
pushin for revival... you can never discount that. But I cant be everywhere at once, which leads me to my third rant...

The Third..the Terry Reisch Memorial Charity Race....I wasn't there either..and from what hear through the lines, is that few were..OK heres the deal...to all shouts of discontent about the thinness of the pro 1/2 heard..We all want to support a good cause, But the simple fact remains is most of those suck'as have had alotta racin in there legs, maybe did the Dtown thing the day before, got shit goin on and there cribs they need to tend to before the weekends out. I understand and can wrap my head around not every fool has got all the time in the world to be pinnin numbers on and racing every third or fourth day like a select few.....I also get it... they probably aren't doing it for the $..cuz lets face it there isn't none..but that being said a little return on the investment never is turned down. Finlay the Michigan challenge points or whatever that got waved around..BHAA, I can only imagine only about 3 dudes really care about that..so dont hate me..

Theres only so much jelly in the jar and when it gets spread around two to three loafs, the sandwiches get pretty thin...

Get my dirft?

Fuck it all, race your bike. If you show you show and that's who races. If not, don't be a hater just show up and race the non haters that are there. You would have won, but you didn't because..... (Fill in the blank)

AWESOME!...THANK YOU

Funny, all those tired bike racers chose the same race to take off.

Bottom line folks...we dont do it for the $. But no incentive, means alotta no shows.
sad but true.
even though few stand at chance at even getting there money back its nice to try for..
drop the $ from most races and watch the turnouts go down

Money makes the world go around.

LMAO.

Ok. from now on... if you win, place or also ran.. don't take the grip.

cat 5's race for pride,
$ brings out talent as little and as small as it seems.
If I wanna go fast for pride, Ill do the local group ride, and not spend a shit load driving, and time away from my job and family somewhere to swing mine around.
The Money doesn't drive me, but its a nice carrot to feed my hobbie.

just my 2 cents. don't hate me.

Cat 5's usually are hyper motivated because they are typically just getting into the sport, they'll race anywhere. Pro 1,2's are usually crusty old guys or hyper motivated youngsters. They older bunch needs some incentives (distance, $$$, classic course, etc), while the younger bunch needs the same, they also crave bigger events, i.e. NRC, Canada Cup, etc. Just my two cents, for what it's worth.

that about sums it up.

It's not just the lack of $$$. Look at the college scene for a counter example: tons of fast cat 1 guys, even a few pros, racing for nothing but pride and school spirit. The problem is that when people see a $0 prize list for a normal race, they think no one else is going to show up and avoid going themselves. No one wants to race against 10 dudes because it's lame and not real bike racing.

yes and thats what will kill a scene more than anything....

Was the promoter pissed that there were no Cat 1/2's?

Other categories has some okay representation.

There's a simple fix for this next year, don't offer a Cat 1/2 race, boost up the racing benefits for the others (goodie bags, etc, shwag like that seems to get the lower Cats really jazzed up) and put your effort into giving the other categories more perks.

Simple

thats a pretty good. The 1/2 fields seem somewhat prize$ driven. a charity race is much like a disease ride, a benefit of sorts.
The Scene isn't Euro hard, but it is tough, and filled up enough with weekends and mid race stuff for working guys to be pick and choosy.

Few of us can devote every single weekend Sat/Sun to travel around for all for nothing bragging points.

Race closer for more money.

Cash is only one excuse. There aren't bragging rights if its 8 dudes and half of them are on your team, so there goes that reason to race. It's a long drive for many and mbra has succeeded in making the Michigan Challenge as useful as a poopy flavored lollipop. Seems to be a fun course but 2 years of poor attendance means bus in competition or deal with a dwindling field. I don't race to stand on top of a podium with a check I race to compete against a quality field. Look at WW or Gratton. Small purses big crowds because you know people will be there. Sometimes its the stick not the carrot.

now how bout if the put some big cash towards the mbra series? That might make it a competition.

Say each point series race has to pay 10% of their purse towards a point series award - winner take all or top 3. You'd have at least a few grand in the 1-2s and the end of the year.

That would get some people to show up. Might lead to some more negative tactics though.

winning the mbra means . Follow wheels, shell out the cash for entry, place top 10 every weekend.
win series. get nothing

Why is it always money. If the riders are proud of the series they will race for it and show up. As it stands MBRA tries to lead them around to the races they want to help by wagging points in there face. Ohh a track competition, oh this little race way out of the way, better make every TT a points race. Make it entertaining and not an attendance award.

I just like to race, because one day I won't beable to.

why not it aint going no where?

Bullshit. Race for pride.

do you take pride in your Job?

if so, then do that for free.

1) just race your damn bike
2) including (mandatory) track races in MBRA points is bullshit. What about those who live hours away, like Traverse City? Drive 4 hours to ride 3k? This is a payoff to Dale Hughes and nothing more. It should be abolished from the points series - there are a lot pf people sore about this point.
3) just race your damn bike

Anonymous said...

I dont give 2 shits for the MBRA for nothing series, but yea, that whole Bullshit track points is just a dam plug for Dale. Who the fuck made that shit up? I mean come on. Just because someone is putting a race doesn't mean it has to be part of the series, My opinion it should be your a % like 5 best or whatever. But the track thing is just dumb.

Field size should somehow be considered. Giving small races mbra points is a plus if guys are racing for it, since no one races for the overall it simply ostracizes those races as people realize what the MBRA is attempting.
