Brakes Bikes..

The cool thing about doin these bike bio's is that we here at the TMS learn so much about people than what we see at the races, sometimes the bike is secondary, As you read on You will see what i mean, Were not just bike geeks and hardcore racers, we are much more than our competition realize, And when hearing from Jason it finaly came to me why this blog was started, Its a way of bringing all of us together, and how close we are at actually knowing everyone around us, we can recognize each other as friends and still want to rip there legs of every weekend.

Heres a bit about Jason..We know him as the guy who shredded the cat 3 for a good part of the season, but this is what most dont know.....He raced BMX as a kid from 2^nd to 5^th grade

·Got into freestyle BMX and did that until 8^th grade, when I got into skateboarding.

· Competed in skate competitions all through high school.

· Went to Japan from and lived there for 3 years (94, 97-99) where I rediscovered the joy of riding a bike.

Did a lot of cyclo-touring.

· Came home to the US in 99 and bought a mountain bike. Started riding on Hines and noticed everyone riding.

· Bought my first road bike in August 02, having never ridden one previously, and competed in the Hines Park TT

three days later. I got dead last in cat 5.

· I’ve just been making progress every year since. 2006 is my 3^rd season for cyclocross.

Bottomline – Bike racing is something I’ve loved since a young lad and it is my passion. I have a 3 year old son, Aidan,

who has already raced at 4 events in 2006. I’m grooming him to follow in Dad’s footsteps.

Heres were it gets good....Ill let jason tell you.

I am an old school punk to the bone. I played bass in punk bands for years, at Blondies, Todd’s, the Majestic,

St. Andrews. I was the original bass player in a band called the Suicide Machines local to Detroit. I’ve played

with Murphy’s Law, Rancid, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, SBLC (local Detroit punk band), and others.

The Misfits

were definitely one of the originals that I listened to. I’ve met Mr. Danzig himself on two occasions, but that was

well after the Misfits gig................ COOL!

Life in the Trenches

Some of his earliest recorded musical endeavors were as a drummer. At high school, he had a penchant for provocative theatrics early on. At one early gig (a high school dance), he pulled down the decorations and everyone cheered. One early gig even started a riot. He wrote two songs with the band Malpractice in 1977 and also played drums on the single ("Galileo"/"Jesus Over New York") for the band Stripsearch in 1981.

His first years as a frontman were with the Jabbers (1977 – April of 1984). The Jabbers recorded a number of tracks for which Allin played drums and performed vocals. Out of these years came Allin's debut release, Always Was, Is, And Always Shall Be. At the time, Allin was a standard punk rock frontman in the vein of Iggy Pop and Stiv Bators. He was even managed at one point by industry veteran (and Dead Boys producer) Genya Ravan. Tensions within The Jabbers began to mount as Allin became increasingly uncontrollable, vicious, and uncompromising. The Jabbers discontinued, and the members parted ways. Allin's drug use started during this period.

Between the early to the late 1980s, Allin fronted many acts. These included early albums varying from The Cedar Street Sluts to The Scumfucs in 1982, and The Texas Nazis in 1985. However, Allin remained in the underground punk scene and was not yet a viable punk icon of the east coast punk scene. On March 13, 1986, a daughter was born to Allin and Tracy Deneault. Little is known about the child, Nicoann Deneault. It has been speculated that the small picture in GG's left hand at his funeral may be of Nicoann, though it most likely a picture of a very young GG Allin [5] [6]. Tracey Deneault and GG never married. Tracey was a teenage girl Allin took up with when his wife, Sandra Farrow - his childhood sweetheart and a model, divorced him. Allin retreated to a cabin in New Hampshire where he wrote what he considered to be his first "masterpiece", Eat My Fuc.

Though still a marginal figure, Allin first came to wider attention with the release by Reachout International Records (ROIR) of Hated In The Nation (1987), a cassette-only release at the time, which contained several tracks from Allin's then-out-of-print back catalogue with The Jabbers, The Scumfucs and Cedar Street Sluts. The tape also featured several new recordings, both in-studio and in-concert, with an all-star band assembled by producer, Maximum RocknRoll columnist, and early Allin patron Mykel Board. This band featured J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. on lead guitar, and Bongwater producer/musician Mark Kramer on bass.

Other notibles of the weekend included, grand Dad Robert herriman added another 28 or so miles to years total with a strong top 10 finisher. NICE JOB, Kelli Emmet took the pro womens uncontested.. Eric Forrester took 30-34 expert win, Mike Wissink picked a temporary sponsor the weekend and Sandbagged the expert 35-39. Don Cameron showed his usual good form with 2nd in 40-44 expert, ageless Jim James won another iceman. singlespeeders posted times that where very impressive. If I had a dollar.

After seeing JB Hancocks blog about being out of the loop for awhile it got me thinking...I wish i had a dollar for everytime i ran across an old friend who says, i wish i never quit riding.. Id would be rollin! Time and time again this comes up. oh yea sure there are those who were always better than i remember, or at least they said they were. we all have our reasons for leaving the love of two wheels, Birth, Death, getting married, getting fat, Too many parties, goin to jail... hell even sex changes have kept a few of my peers off a the ol two wheeler. Im sure everyone out there knows where im coming from. time constraints, the cost factor, chicks, boredom, ECT.Shit a break is good from time to time, but what most of our old pals forget is that the bike is never far away, there may even be a few of you out there right now thinking of callin it quits, Take a close look at the pics and maybe that bike isnt so bad. besides, your friends are waiting for you.

How the cross of punk was started.

He was born Jesus Christ Allin at Weeks' Memorial Hospital, in Lancaster, New Hampshire.[1] He was given this messianic name because his father, Merle Allin, Sr. (a religious and antisocial man), then 32 years old, had told his wife, Arleta Gunther, then 21 years old, that an angel had visited him and told him that his newborn son would be a great man in the vein of the Messiah. [2] [3] As a young child, his older brother, Merle Allin, Jr., was unable to pronounce "Jesus" properly and kept calling him "Jeje", which became "GG". The family lived in a log cabin with no water or electricity. Allin's father, who forbade all conversation in the home after dark, was reportedly physically abusive and mentally unstable, though GG himself never used this as an excuse for any of his own eccentricities.

Shortly before Allin started school, his mother changed his legal name to Kevin Michael Allin (on March 2, 1962 by his birth certificate). Arleta had allowed his birth name to stand until this point. However, with her husband's deteriorating mental health, his mother changed his name in order to give Allin a chance at a normal, mockery-free childhood.

GG was considered a misfit from junior high on, and was placed in special ed classes and left back a year. He was known to rebel by showing up to school dressed in drag (his 11th grade school picture depicts him this way). When asked about his childhood, GG has been quoted as saying "Very chaotic. Full of chances and dangers. We sold drugs, stole, broke into houses, cars, etc. Did whatever we wanted to for the most part - including all the bands we played in. People even hated us back then.

It looks though now cross is his big love, he even has a blog dedicated to it, www.sufferingincyclocross.blogspot.com, check it out its worth the look. But now his bike... of all the bikes that have been featured here This one is my personal fav. dont be surprised to see another one of these roll up on the grass real soon, and his tricked out perfect i wouldnt change a thing. Notes of intrest are the carbon wheels, it looks as though carbon in the hoops are now becoming norm on alot of crossbikes as well as the single ring set up. ICEMAN..

Its that weekend again, A weekend alot of us take for granted. Oh boy first weekend of November, it only gets colder and darker from here. Yea its gonna get bleak, but were having one .. hell the biggest one day MTB races in the country in our backyard, and with the Tour de leelenau going bigtime next year were gettin on the map. i love this race for so many reasons, the crowds, the vibe, and the different faces comin out of the woodwork, Its always funny how seasoned road guys show up with late season form and ride well. It just rocks. This marks the first time in years that someone from TMS wont be there. But we will all be thinking of those that will and goin to battle. Good luck and drink a cold one.

Vets, revisited.

Alright..Vets park, whew whatta day, The look of pain was a common expression through out the day, but that didnt stop Michigan crossers, from goin to battle on what was probably the toughest day at the office all season.
The day started bright and breezy and cool with course made up of a soil soft as a pair of twinkies ,
The B race saw a new winner again , i dont think we have had the same winner all season, Andrew from the The S team took it. Good win on a tough course!, Jason Brake suffered a hard fall when he clipped a barrier.
The Cyborg, Steve Clark rode off the front to win the masters field, ahead of Don Cameron, and Rhino Tod Frierichs. Dam.... Clark made that long ass hill look easy. How long will it be before he takes this cycling discipline?
the Little guys were rippin, Brandon Goocher of Jacks Bikes had his hands full with, Joe Foretran of the maple leafs. as he had to settle for and this weekend.
Rachel Steele worked the field and the pits as well as the local bar scene with a style unlike any other elite woman has in years, all the UCI racing and blogin is startin to pay off.
The elite men's race was a cornicopui of riders, The usual supsects, the Cane Creek trio, The quiet one, The Simonster and his pals, were gettin ready for the Iceman, Sunrise was well represented. Young Gun Olander was back at it, and a few surprise guests, two of the WCMR riders were on hand to show there Kisscross skills. and a few others new to the A game were gonna do the duty. Once green flag dropped all the bloggin Bullshit stopped as a group got off the front, with Cane Creek and Simonster layin it down, Card who has been goin faster than a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs pushed hard, Simonster would have a untimley breakdown leavin Card to roll in with another win, big props go to Sunrise and Cane Creek both teams put 3 guys in the top 10.
It was a tough day for all and a dam good warmup for those headin to Iceman next weekend, Thanks Tailwind and Twowheel tango for another great weekend of cross!
